Proper Interviews

Going into an interview you might be nervous only because you are essentially being evaluated.  There are some things that might help you not sweat through your clothes or nerve your way into saying something bad.  First thing is first the employer is going to look for qualities in you that they think will make their organization in the future. So when you go in for your interview be confident in yourself.  Know exactly what your qualifications and experiences are that make you a top candidate for the job, but do not try to be perfect. Be on time and do not be late.  Show up a little before scheduled appointment about  10 minutes prior just encase there is paper work to feel out. Do not try and show up really early though, by doing this it might make your interviewer think they have to hurry and get to you ahead of time.  Now “How do I dress for an interview?” you ask.  Be smart about it, if you want to seem like you are very prepared than go check out the job before you show up for the interview to see what everyone is wearing in a normal day.  You can also just ask the interviewer over phone what is preferred to be worn the day of.  Most of the time organizations are not strict about dress codes, but do not be a slob, dress to impress (Not a Tuxedo though).  This will show them that you take this serious and that you care what people think.  Be sure to make eye contact when you are talking or listening. This will sow that you are interested and that you have good active listening skills. Also nonverbal communication such as facial expressions or body language can have a huge effect on the interviewer. Do not slouch and lean a little towards the interviewer as if you are showing that your interest for the position means a lot to you. Try an control you nervous habits like for instance fidgeting in the seat or fidgeting/playing with hands or fingers. Be enthusiastic about the job this will show them that you really want to be there, and that you really would enjoy getting hired for the position. Preparedness is a big one too make sure you have everything you need from a resume down to a pen and paper for notes. The interviewer will see that you have done what you need to do to be ready for the day and that you plan ahead.  When you are answering questions do not drawl them out and keep them brief and to the point. Directly answer questions, meaning that a lot of things asked might have multiple questions with in one question.  If you need to take a pen and paper and write things down that way you know for sure that you are not missing anything.  Finally make sure that you know everything that you can about the company that you can.  Try and look up past and present events that is a big deal to the company and talk about it if the questions come up.  The interviewer will know that you have researched the business so you know whats going on if you are hired and that will be one thing that they do not need to cover with you later.  Always end the interview with questions for the interviewer. By doing this it will make you stand out the the competition, and will make them think you are extremely interested.
